Day 1

Departure on overnight flight

Day 2  (Sept 13)

Arrive Kilimanjaro Airport.  Our hosts will meet us outside customs and transport us to the  Mt. Meru Game Lodge. The lodge is located on 33 acres of mature, well manicured gardens bounded on one side by the rushing waters of the Usa river and on the other by the Animal Sanctuary where resident animals and birds live in peace. The lodge consists of 17 double rooms with verandahs. This location provides a great way to decompress from the long flights.

Day 3

At 8 AM our driver guides will pick up our luggage for transport via road to the far north reaches of the Serengeti National Park. We will will keep one change of clothes, toiletries and camera gear for the flight (max weight 33 lbs).

In the morning we will take a cultural walk through the town of Usa River and visit the school project being supported by Acacia Photography travelers. Back to Mt. Meru Game Lodge for a quick lunch and then off to Arusha National Park for a short afternoon safari drive.  This small park is a great place to start and sits between Mt. Kilimanjaro (19.320 ft ) and Mt Meru (15,780 ft).  On a clear day it is a magical setting with vistas of wildlife in front of the mountains and both are taller than any mountain in the lower 48 states. Overnight at the Mt. Meru Game Lodge.

Day 4

Breakfast and then fly to the Mara Wedge (the small triangle of land north of the Mara River in the Serengeti).  We will be met by our naturalist guides who will take us to our mobile camp by Intimate Places Camping where we will be re-united with our luggage and have lunch amid the migration while looking across the Kenyan border. After lunch there will be a safari drive among the largest concentration of the 'Mega Migration' at this time of year and hopefully witness a river crossing.  My clients regularly rate the mobile camp as having the best services, food and overall experience.  Each tent has real wrought iron beds, running water, electricity (with charging stations), toilet and shower.

Day 5 & 6

Dawn to dusk safari drives through the amazing Mara Wedge and  overnight at the mobile camp by Intimate Places Camping.

Day  7 & 8

Safari drive from the northern corridor to the luxurious Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp. Scenically located in a glade guarded by 3 million year old granite towers, Mbuzi Mawe (meaning Klipspringer in English) makes maximum use of its unique wilderness location. Each permanent tent has terrazzo tiled floors, marble vanities, toilets, showers, king sized beds and electricity.  The main lodge boasts casual elegance and the food is the very best.  A great jumping off point for the wildlife in the Lobo area.

Day  9 & 10

Safari drive to the center of the Serengeti and the large cat population of the Seronera region. Overnight at the Serena Serengeti. Located on a hill with awesome views across the sweeping plains the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is a top top rated lodge offers beautiful rooms, wonderful food and entertainment in the heart of the Serengeti. In close proximity to the large cat populations surrounding the center of the park.

Day 11

After breakfast we will look for game as we drive to one of the most significant origin of man archeological sites in the world. At Olduvai Gorge, the Leakey's uncovered traces of man's predecessors from 3.5 million years ago.  After a lecture and viewing the museum we will travel on to the  Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge. The lodge is set along the uppermost rim of the Ngorongoro World Heritage site, and offers breathtaking views of the crater floor far below.

Day 12

Early morning game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater (Africa's Eden).  Lunch on the crater floor and then depart for Arusha and the Serena Mountain Village Lodge. Nestled in the heart of a coffee plantation on the shores of Lake Duluti, Mountain Village Lodge will give guests a true experience of a coffee plantation and is designed as an African village. It is renowned for its collection of spectacular bougainvillea. Accommodation is housed in banana stem thatched
huts, grouped in semi-circles around tropical shade trees.

Day 13 (Sept 24)

Day room (including breakfast and lunch) at the Serena Mountain Village Lodge until 5:30 PM when we leave for the airport for the return flight.
